I would like to be able to enter and display refunds from our suppliers. I can do that through the enter bills if we have a credit from the supplier but i can not find a way to do that if we receive a transfer/cheque or cash back for a certain payment.
At the moment we are entering it through a deposit entry because it's the only place I can use the name of the supplier and assign an account to put the money back into. Unfortunately those entries do not show up under the suppliers account and also i can not include Tax (GST) in the refund to make the correct adjustment to money owed to the tax office.
Ideal would be if we could create a refund from the original cheque entry in Reckon and adjust the amount if needed since it might only be a partial refund. That would allow for things to show up under the suppliers account and tracking the history nicely of what took place with the transaction.
To show a refund from a supplier that is banked, including GST, please follow this procedure:
Create a Bill Credit showing either the goods (if inventory) or items or services or general ledger accounts that are being refunded. This will reverse the GST.
When creating the bank deposit, use the ACCOUNTS PAYABLE GL account ** The supplier name MUST be included.
3. Once saved, go to Pay Bills where you will see the deposit. Apply the outstanding credit from the Bill Credit to the deposit.
You have now shown the payment into your bank (deposit) and recorded the correct GST reversal (Bill Credit).
Hi Jason,
I really appreciate your reply. Once more I feel like you guys have improved so much just doing that in customer care and making us feel like we are getting heard.
Can I add another product idea that I think would be an amazing little feature. (I guess at least for us ☺)
In the advanced find menu when you are filtering by amount I am very surprised that there is not option to search by amount “between”.
You can search equal, bigger or equal as or smaller and equal as.
I think would hope and think that it would be quiet easy to make it available to search between a certain amount.
We get it quiet a bit that we are after a receipt for warranty purposes and people don’t remember the exact amount we paid or when exactly we purchased it. Or we get bounced international transfers that the bank doesn’t give us much details about and the amount has changed because there were bank fees taken out.
Limiting the search for an amount between would really help us to find things much quicker.
Kind regards,
Stevie Wasem
Hi Stevie and thanks for the great feedback. Internally we agree that it's a bit of a 'clunky workaround' however there are so many things at play we feel the development effort to make a simpler process would not be justified. This year we are focused on improving bank data and transaction coding, as well as building out our mobile platform which we feel is better bang for our development bucks. That said, I have created a new IDEA for improving the process. You can vote on that idea here: https://ideas.reckon.com/ideas/RAB-I-293
Hi,
Thank you so much for that response. This is the best response I’ve ever received from Reckon so far. I’ve been using the software for over the last 6 years. When ever I’ve made suggestion or asked questions I felt like there was absolutely no support.
This was great to get a response and some suggestion on how to get things solved.
Thank you for that.
This does help us to resolve the bigger issue of entering refunds. I do find it still a bit convoluted having to enter 2 different things and reconcile them together but it certainly shows up on the suppliers side and it’s possible to track.
Could you consider to possibly make it a bit simpler. One entry to solve it all would be really nice. An even better work flow tool would be if the refund entry could be generated from the original payment. So when going to the original cheque it would be nice to have a solution of receive refund with the same details already entered and being able to adjust the amount if it is not a full refund from there.
Anyway, you guys made my day today and putting up hopes for more improvements to come. I’ve also appreciated the increased response on suggestions on the webpage in the last couple month. Really encouraging to feel like we are getting heard and someone is actually responding to the request and suggestions.
Have a great day
Stevie
