New Employees are usually added when they receive their first pay. Currently, the Hire Date pre-fills with today's date. Most users are not familiar with the implications of the Hire Date, and often will overlook the Hire Date field (on a laptop it is off the main display screen). Concequently when they go to process the first pay for them, the employee is not available on the Employee dropdown list as the pay run is dated before their Hire Date.
Much better to have the Hire Date field not pre-fill and make it a required field.
Hi Michael. Currently you cannot process a payrun or calc leave without a hire date, so it is pre-filled as its not obvious to a user it is mandatory and without a pre-fill it was a high call generator.
That said, we have re-designed HIRE DATE in our upcoming Payroll App to be a lot simpler and more in line with your requirements, and will push these changes to Books+ web version - planned for later in the year.
